An exhibit of early photographs documenting daily life in 19th century Marblehead – when bicycles ruled the byways and life by the seaside seemed a little less complicated. The exhibit is sure to evoke nostalgia for some visitors, and daydreams for others.
“Marblehead in Black & White: Recollections 2010” is a collaboration between the Marblehead Museum & Historical Society and the Marblehead Historical Commission. Photographs from both organizations' archives will be on display at the Museum's 170 Washington St. galleries and at Abbot Hall, beginning June 17.
“This is wonderful opportunity for the Museum – as a non-profit that depends on membership dues and contributions – to partner with a Marblehead Town organization that also focuses on history, preservation, and education.” says Pam Peterson, Executive Director of the Museum.
Chris Johnston, Chairman of the town’s Historical Commission adds, "The photo collections of both organizations complement each other, in representing the general themes of people, town views, businesses and the harbor. We are pleased to be able to contribute to this exhibit in a meaningful way."
